What We Do

Arete Directors

Arete's Directors John Cacioppo, Matthew Christian, and Ken Olliff (right to left) at the Defining Wisdom Grant Competition.

Project Development

Arete usually gets involved in new projects in the early, conceptual stages of a project's development.

The process often begins with a series of discussions with a potential faculty leader around big ideas, problems, and possibilities. As needed, Arete works with the leader to envision and think through potential interdisciplinary research programs and to identify possible collaborators.

Arete can also assist the leader in assembling a team; fleshing out the proposed project; drafting a concept paper; identifying and connecting with potential funders; and developing and submitting a full proposal.

Proposal Review/Consultation

Arete also works with existing project teams to finalize a proposal before submission to a funding agency.

Arete consults with existing teams and centers to develop new projects or to provide assistance as proposals are in development prior to submission to a funding agency.

Collaboration Systems & Technology

Arete assists teams in developing best practices and utilizing web-based tools to facilitate collaboration and efficient exchange of information among project members.

Administrative Support & Meeting Coordination

Arete provides critical administrative support in order to bring teams together and allow them to succeed, including coordinating meetings, conference calls, travel, and other organizational needs.

Minimize Obstacles for Project Teams

Arete is committed to removing obstacles faculty face in starting large-scale interdisciplinary projects. Feel free to contact us with any questions or problem. If we cannot help, we will try to find someone who can.
